Coartem is used in the treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria infections as it affects the growth of the parasite which causes malaria. It is not indicated for prevention.
Active Ingredients
Artemether 80mg, Lumefantrine 480mg
Directions for use
To be taken in divided dose for 3 days. Take 1 tablet then 8 hours after another tablet. The following day, take 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet at night (repeat this for the third day as well). Take preferably with a meal.
Side effects/Interactions/Allergies
Coartem may interact with these drugs to cause a reduced effect: antioxidant vitamins, rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and St. John’s wort.
